About NAIFA Chicago Chapter

Welcome, and thank you for visiting the Chicago-Metro Chapter of NAIFA, an active and engaged member of the appraisal community throughout the Northeastern Illinois area. Please browse the website, and do not hesitate to ask any questions that may arise. Use the Opt-in addition to our mailing list for future events and programs. CMC-NAIFA is pleased to offer wonderful educational opportunities, with nationally recognized educators from our own chapter, as well as highly respected educators from around the country. You can link directly to the National education calendar from our site for additional class information and registration. We meet most months of the year on the second Thursday of the month, with luncheons and guest speakers that offer a variety of topics of interest for appraisers, lenders and real estate professionals. Take these opportunities to network, learn and share your thoughts and knowledge with other valuation professionals from the area.

Thanks again for visiting CMC-NAIFA

Our Mission

The National Association of Independent Fee Appraisers is an association of professional real estate appraisers committed to the support of its members, for a service of trust and integrity that benefits the members, the profession, and the general public.

NAIFA's objectives are to raise the standards of the appraisal profession, to exchange experiences and ideas to the betterment of the profession and the public, to maintain and encourage a code of ethics of the highest standards for members, to gain recognition for its members as qualified professionals, to encourage educational pursuits for members in attaining a high standard of proficiency in their chosen specialty, and to promote fellowship among appraisers.

The Association was founded in 1961 as a non-profit association of professional real estate appraisers. Today, our Association has chapters throughout the United States and Canada, and we continue to expand our market outreach.

Ethics and Designation

NAIFA requires its members to sign and adhere to a Code of Ethics as a condition of membership and designation. This code helps NAIFA members maintain professionalism and ethical standards as they provide services to clients, and as they deal with their colleagues and the public. Adhering to the Code demonstrates a voluntary commitment to ethical actions above and beyond the requirements of law.

Ethical behavior includes practices such as:

  • Safeguarding confidential information.
  • Rendering impartial, independent advice.
  • Accepting only those client engagements they are qualified to perform.
  • Agreeing with the client in advance on the basis for professional charges.
  • Developing realistic and practical solutions to client problems.

The Professional Standards Committee enforces the Code by investigating complaints of violations and by taking disciplinary action, including revoking the designation of any member who is found guilty of a Code violation.
